Just Me and You: Story Behind the Song
I’ll never forget the night I was first challenged to really dig into the Word of God. Twelve-year-old me sat on a pink bean bag with a matching pink devotional balanced on my lap. My youth leader looked around the group of girls, “Ladies, we need to read God’s Word.”

I was raised in a strong Christian household and my parents discipled me from a very young age. Still, something about that Wednesday evening rocked my world. I cracked open Matthew and started chipping away at the book every night before bed. If I’m honest, at first I really didn’t get it. It was hard to find the love everyone kept preaching to me in genealogies and confusing stories, but I kept going. Finally, I paused in Matthew and went over to Luke. Something clicked. The stories grabbed my heart, and I loved all the parables. From then on, I started to really fall in love with God’s Word, and built the discipline of studying Scripture.
And…then life got more complicated. There were school moves and losses. There were dreams that shifted. There were failed expectations. Some nights, it was habit alone pulling out my Bible.
Just Me and You
My song “Just Me and You” is a response to that. I wrote this song just sitting in my bedroom. I thought about all the things that were distracting me from my one-on-one time with the Lord and prayed that He would, “Take my hand, God, lead me. Away from the distractions. To mountain tops and quiet streams.”
In the midst of loneliness or college stresses or life hurdles, Jesus is our best friend. We only need to slow down long enough to spend time with Him.
