I Know You (Peter’s Song)
For some reason, Peter’s denial has always been one of the most interesting parts of the whole Easter story for me. Maybe it’s because I just see myself in that moment. I think about all the times I have failed to let Jesus be known at school or hanging out with friends. I see myself in Peter.
I’ve been reading in Mark recently and Peter’s words grabbed me. He told Jesus, “Even if all fall away, I will not.” (Mark 14:29 NIV)
I wonder if those words taunted him as the rooster crowed. I wonder if they echoed in his brain as Jesus hung on the cross or in the days that followed when he had no idea where to go from there.
I wonder if they became his anthem as Jesus reinstated him and then gave all the disciples the Great Commission to go preach the Gospel.
All I know is that I’m so thankful Jesus gave Peter another chance. That He gives us all a second chance, and I know that I want my heart cry to be that “Even if all of them fall away, I will be one who stays.”
I love You, Jesus!
